This will be determined at each appointment based on your current level of symptoms severity, psychotherapeutic interventions, and whether or not medication changes are made. Follow up visits are typically anywhere from weekly to once every three months.
Telehealth appointments are conducted virtually, so a strong and reliable Internet connection is essential. You will also need a computer or mobile device, such as a phone or tablet with a microphone, speakers, and a camera. A computer is better than a mobile device, but a mobile phone is an acceptable alternative and is also a good backup should you have computer issues. Make sure your chosen device is plugged in or fully charged. Please note that most insurance plans will NOT pay for your visit if there is no video component with telehealth, and you may be charged the full cost out-of-pocket.
Having access to a blood pressure cuff and a bathroom scale is helpful. If possible, take a reading from both instruments prior to your telehealth visit and record these to share with your provider.
Find a quiet and private place for your appointment where you will not be interrupted or distracted, and use headphones if possible. Finding a location with adequate lighting so your provider can see you clearly is also helpful and appreciated.
Download any required app or software program utilized by the medical provider in advance of the appointment, and set up your account and login information. (the telehealth provider will give you instructions before hand).
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT BEFORE YOUR MEDICATION RUNS OUT.
You'll be given refills for your prescriptions during your medication management appointments. These refills should be sufficient to last until your next appointment. However, if you cancel your follow up, but need medications, you'll be responsible to provide us with seven days notice prior to running out of your current prescription. You will also need to be seen by your provider before any further refills will be processed (this will be a one time courtesy refill outside of an appointment).
Changes to medication dose, type, or frequency are not made outside of scheduled visits. We will not renew any controlled substances outside of appointment times as these are tightly regulated, and we take this seriously for the health and safety of our patients.
We recommend calling the 24-hour crisis line at 988, or reporting to the nearest Emergency Room. However, if this is a life-threatening emergency please call 911.
